Sherri Thomas
I enjoy painting various subjects with oil based pigments but the landscape is my greatest love. Rarely is it difficult to find something in the landscape to paint; the difficulty is choosing which one. I frequently paint outside because direct observation is invaluable in seeing the subtleties of a subject. The rapidly changing light and weather conditions evoke an immediate response and distillation of the scene. On days when it all works, it‘s an amazing feeling to capture it on canvas and preserve that segment of time.
Time in the studio is equally important. It's where experimentation, clarity, and hours of thoughtful creativity happen. Whether it's outside or in the studio, I find oil paint to be an endlessly fascinating medium to work with. Using it, my goal is to create paintings that convey beauty, but are expressive and compelling to the viewer.
